Refugee Week got off to a brilliant start with our ‘Refugees Welcome Here’ exhibition at the West Yorkshire Playhouse. The exhibition has been on for the whole of Refugee Week and includes photos and conversations about friendship and welcome in Leeds. We will be adding the photos and conversations to the website soon!
On Tuesday 17th, we were involved in a workshop on interpreting best practice which was well attended.
Tuesday was also the day we held a welcome party for the BEACON Walk for Justice. A group walked from Bradford to Waterside Court in Leeds in solidarity with destitute asylum-seekers who have to make the journey by foot in order to report. The walkers were met with donated drinks and food from Toast Love Coffee and donated toiletries and goodies from Lush.
Refugee Week was rounded off with ‘Wonderful Women Around the World’, a gathering of women with lots of singing, dancing and laughter. We shared songs and dances from around the world and presented ‘People and the Dales’ with a Sanctuary in Mental Health Award. Lots of fun was had by all!
